Following the meeting with Massimo Polidoro on July 4th, which partly anticipated some of the themes of his friend and reference point, on Saturday, July 18th Borghetto Santo Spirito hosts the renowned philosopher and evolutionist Telmo Pievani, who will be the protagonist of a double event included in the series Evenings & Afternoons with Authors and Theater in the Village.
At 6:00 PM, at the Multipurpose Hall of Palazzo E. Pietracaprina, Telmo Pievani will present “United for Life. Stories of Symbiosis and Cooperation” Mulino Editore, a touching account, where biology, ethics and philosophy meet to reveal that evolution has never been a solo performance, but a symphony of coexistences.
Symbiosis between different species and cooperation between individuals of the same species have shaped the history of life on Earth. In many ways, these are inevitable relationships for all organisms in every corner of the natural world. Long considered expressions of visionary minds and explained to the public only superficially, they are instead one of the engines of evolution. In this book, written by Telmo Pievani and Maurizio Casiraghi, two of the most authoritative and brilliant scientists and philosophers of science in Italy, we discover the adventurous story of this discovery: from the brilliant intuitions of the disturbing Konstantin Sergeevich Merežkovskij in early twentieth-century Russia, to the revolutionary determination of Lynn Margulis, the “spokeswoman” of the microcosm who in the Seventies forever changed our way of seeing evolution. And then Pëtr Kropotkin, George Price and other figures, who intuited the role of cooperation in nature. These unions for life, suspended between conflict and collaboration, make us reflect on the complexities of human relationships as well. The result is a touching account, where biology, ethics and philosophy meet to reveal that evolution has never been a solo performance, but a symphony of coexistences. The meeting is introduced by Graziella Frasca Gallo.
The appointment with Telmo Pievani is renewed at 9:30 PM with the Theater in the Village series, in the evocative setting of the historic Cinema Vittoria arena, with the show “Darwin’s Crime. Story of a Frightening Secret“, written and performed by philosopher and evolutionist Telmo Pievani: https://visitborghetto.it/eventi/il-delitto-di-darwin-di-e-con-telmo-pievani
