Massimo Polidoro presents “The Mystery of Human Origins”

Description

Opening the 2026 edition of “Author Evenings and Afternoons” will be Massimo Polidoro, Saturday July 4th at 6:00 PM at the Multipurpose Hall of Palazzo E.Pietracaprina, where the author and science communicator will present “The Mystery of Human Origins“.

Massimo Polidoro, in his book, explores the fundamental stages of human evolution. The work, published by Feltrinelli Editore, combines history, genetics and paleoanthropology to answer great questions: where do we come from, who are we and what will be our biological future on the planet.

“Darwin broke this spell. But precisely for this reason he gave us something greater: the freedom to build our own meaning. Not because it was imposed on us, but because we can choose it.

Since humans have existed, so too has the oldest question of all: where do we come from? It is a curiosity that transcends cultures, epochs and continents and has produced mythologies, philosophical speculations and, much later, scientific attempts to reconstruct the past. While on one hand the desire for knowledge led to such questions, others instead sought to ignore the answer, even among scientists. Investigating the origin of mankind meant risking putting into question the fundamental beliefs on which the world, society and even the idea of oneself were founded, so it could be very dangerous. Knowing where we come from, in fact, is not necessarily reassuring, and for a long time the desire to protect a granite order prevailed over the need to understand.

Hosted by Graziella Frasca Gallo and Sergio Badino.
