Palazzo Elena Pietracaprina
Description
Palazzo Elena Pietracaprina represents one of the main historical and institutional buildings of Borghetto Santo Spirito. Located in Piazza della Libertà, in the heart of the town and along the axis connecting the railway station to the historic center, the palace was built between 1915 and 1916 on a project by engineer Giuseppe Amico. The building was donated in 1920 to the Municipality by Elena Pietracaprina Marexiano, a local benefactress who, after achieving important business successes in Uruguay together with her husband Santiago Marexiano, wished to offer the community a place dedicated to public services and social life in the town. Over time, the palace has housed the town hall, elementary schools, the post office, and various spaces devoted to civic and associative activities. Even today it retains the original charm of early twentieth-century architecture, recognizable in its elegant loggias with balustrades, in the decorations of the facades, and in its characteristic corner turret. Thanks to its historical, architectural, and symbolic value, Palazzo Pietracaprina remains one of the most representative places of the cultural identity of Borghetto Santo Spirito.
