SUMMARY:OLIVI RITROVATI 2026 – The laboratory for children
DESCRIPTION:Tastings\, games\, observations: an afternoon of experiments an
d “mess” for children\, to begin learning more about our oils and our oliv
e trees. Multipurpose Hall Palazzo Pietracaprina\, Piazza della Libertà 1\
, Borghetto Santo Spirito\, 3:30 PM Free participation / Themed snack / Li
mited capacity activity\, reservation required FOR INFORMATION: Email: ass
lafornace@gmail.com Whatsapp and Mobile: 333 1933968 Olivi ritrovati is a
project promoted by the association “La fornace” APS\, with the contributi
on of the Municipality of Borghetto Santo Spirito\, which aims to rediscov
er local olive tree varieties. Following scientific research and thanks to
the use of molecular genotyping techniques\, in collaboration with one of
the leading Italian specialized research laboratories\, it was indeed pos
sible to identify with certainty the varieties of a substantial number of
historic plants and to reconstruct the genetic relationships between diffe
rent cultivars – varieties of olive trees. The hilly areas of Val Varatell
a are characterized by the scenic presence of olive monoculture on terrace
d slopes. The evolution of the local economy during the twentieth century
caused the abandonment of the more isolated slopes\, where the structures
built between the late Middle Ages and the early modern age remain visible
. Even in the municipal territory of Borghetto Santo Spirito there remain
many hectares of historic “fossil” olive groves\, which the project studie
 d. The results will be compared with the accessions included in an interna
tional database\, unique of its kind\, consisting of over ten thousand oli
ve genotypes from all olive-producing countries: this is made possible by
the participation of the association “La fornace” APS as a stakeholder in
the “Omibreed” project conducted by the National Research Council – Instit
ute of Biosciences and Bioresources (CNR-IBBR). The project proposes three
  dissemination initiatives. On Saturday\, October 17th\, at 3:30 PM\, a br
ief informal meeting will be held at the multipurpose room of Palazzo Piet
racaprina\, to present the research program and many curiosities\, news an
d previews of the work already carried out. The meeting is open to all and
will be an opportunity to learn more about our territory and its history.
The following Saturday\, October 24th\, again at Palazzo Pietracaprina\,
an afternoon dedicated to the little ones will follow\, with tastings\, ga
mes\, observations\, experiments and “mess” for children (and not only…).
Using the five senses and a bit of observation spirit\, participants will
discover some curiosities and characteristics of extra virgin oils and loc
al olive varieties. Third and final appointment on October 31st at 2:30 PM
\, with an easy and panoramic hillside walk to explore the geography of th
e ancient olive groves of the valley. In a constantly evolving territory\,
the archaeological traces of past agro-silvopastoral activities remain: d
ry stone walls\, mule tracks\, “caselle”\, stalls and the centuries-old ol
ive tree stumps\, a heritage to decipher that has much to tell\, starting
from the history of property regimes. The meeting point for the excursion
will be at the chapel of Madonna della Neve\, at Pattarello\, along the pr
ovincial road to Toirano. The excursion will last about a couple of hours
and trekking attire is recommended\, with appropriate footwear. Participat
ion in all events is free\; reservation is requested for the children’s la
boratory and for the excursion\, at the number 333 1933968 or by writing t
